World Telecommunication and Information Society Day – Report

 The Institution of Engineers (India), Faridabad Local Centre in association with The North Cap University, Gurugram celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17th May 2019 at Seminar Hall, North Cap University.

 Er. Subhash CHANDER ,Chairman  in his opening address stated that since the technology is developing at very fast pace, unless we UPDATE and ADOPT to this changed scenario with the latest technologies, we shall be left behind and fail to grow up in today’s competitive world. He also stated that the field of TELECOMMUNICATION is developing exponentially and we need to update ourselves on the developments very regularly for our survival. Seminars like this, particularly the applications through the projects by the students and papers to be presented by the experts in today’s session should help us go back wiser on the subject.  

To take the session forward and enlighten the audience with the theme, Chief Guest  Dr. H.B. Raghavendra,Vice Chancellor, NCU gave a practical example of telecommunication about 60 years back and now. He also mentioned about how he is associated with IE(I) and would like to organize more technical activities with us.  

3 Technical Papers were received & 2 presented by Industry Entrepreneurs.

Er. Sandeep Hanada, Honorary Secretary  deliberated that the theme of today’s event is the fundamental part of ITU’s mission to connect to the world. He also mentioned that Bridging the Standardization Gap aims to facilitate the efficient participation of developing countries in ITU’s standards making process to disseminate information about existing standards, and to exist developing countries in the implementation of standards.

Er. Rajat Gupta, Director in IP and Optics Business Division of Nokia Corporation  mentioned about evolution of telecom to Software Defined Networking (SDN). He explained at length the SDN architecture and how SDN promises for greater network efficiency.

Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Technical Consultant in PURECSS submitted the paper on theme.

About 60 students participated in Project Display Competition themed Circuitronix where students displayed various mini projects based on electronics, Internet of things and embedded system and jury were the members of IE(I). Students displayed about 22 mini projects. Out of which 10 best were selected for on stage presentation. Cash Prizes worth Rs. 10,000/- were sponsored by IE(I). Mr. Rijul Aery won the first prize of Rs. 3000/-. Ms. Surbhi won second prize of Rs. 2000/-. Ms. Shrishti won third prize of Rs. 1000/- followed by 7 students who won consolation prizes of Rs. 500/- each.

Er. K.R. Gupta, Convener, Technical Committee proposed vote of thanks to the NCU Coordinators, Industrialists, Chief Guest and the speakers for the event. Attended by 35 participants the event was a grand success.
