The Council, at its 729th Meeting held during 22-23 March 2025 at Gandhinagar, decided the followings:-
ITEM NO.05: ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR FELLOW
Recommendation of MC
The Membership Committee reviewed the existing eligibility criteria of Fellow in details. After a prolonged discussion, the Committee finalized the new Guidelines of Fellow as enclosed in Appendix-II (page 74 of Council Agenda).
Decision of the Council
The Council considered the above recommendation of the Membership Committee and approved with modified provisions as follows:
Applicants working/ worked in other Central/ State Government organizations at the rank of Superintending Engineer or above or Executive Engineers with a total post-qualification experience of 20 years shall be deemed to have held a position of High Responsibility and shall be eligible for Fellow (FIE).
The revised eligibility guidelines for enrolment as Fellows (FIE) are given at ANNEXURE – B (page 67).
ITEM NO.09: PROPOSAL RECEIVED FROM MEMBER, MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Recommendation of MC
The Membership Committee noted the proposals of Er Sanjay Sen, Member of MC in details. After deliberations, the Committee recommended the proposed benefits of Students’ Members (SMIE) to the Council which is enclosed in Appendix-IV (page 76 of Council Agenda).
The following matter has been recommended by the Committee to FC for approval:-
i) The SMIEs may be upgraded to AMIE within one year of Graduation by paying a balance amount of (Fee for AMIE – Fee for SMIE). Therefore, considering the present fee structure, the fee for upgradation of SMIE to AMIE will be Rs.5000 – Rs.1271 = Rs.3729/- (+GST).
ii) The Committee also decided that a discount of additional 10% may be given to such Members if they were the students of Institutional Members (IM) of IEI. Therefore, the fee for upgradation of SMIE to AMIE within one year of Graduation if they were students of IMs will be Rs.3729 – Rs.373= Rs.3356/- + GST
Decision of the Council
The Council considered the above recommendation of the Membership Committee and approved the same.’
In light of the above, the application forms are attached herewith for your ready reference. You are requested to circulate the newly modified application forms to the interested applicants.

JOIN Membership of The Institution of Engineers (India)

Join as AMIE – Associate member of Institution of Engineers.
Eligibility: Should have 21 years of age / BE/B.Tech / Sec A&B Exam. Of IEI or equivalent and Shall be engaged/ shall have been engaged in the design or execution or operation of Engineering works
Join as MIE – Member of Institution of Engineers.
Age: Minimum 30 years on the date of application. Qualification recognized by the Institution and included in the rules and syllabi shall be accepted for various classes of membership. Other qualification may be accepted in consultation with the Equivalence Committee.
Experience:Minimum post-qualification experience should be 8 years. In case of Self-Employed/ Consultant Engineers or those holding relatively lower position of responsibility like Sub Asst Engineer, Supervisor, Overseer etc. minimum requirement of post qualification experience should be 10 years. In case of persons having passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations, period of experience shall be reckoned from the date of passing Section A Examination subject to a maximum one year prior to the passing of Section B Examination.
Join as FIE: Fellow of Institution of Engineers
Fellow is the highest grade amongst the IEI Corporate Members category eligible to use designatory words FIE in their name. Fellow is awarded based on the knowledge, contribution and experience of the person in the respective engineering field after due scrutiny of the application by a board of eminent personalities.
Eligibility: Minimum 40 years on the date of application. BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification recognized by the Institution shall be accepted for various classes of membership. Other qualification may be accepted in consultation with the Equivalence Committee. Any applicant with BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification recognized by the Institution and a total post-qualification experience of atleast 15 years and holding a position of high responsibility.
