Report on World Environment Day 2025




Institution of Engineers (India), Faridabad Local Centre, in association with Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and active participation. This year’s theme was “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The event aimed to raise awareness and encourage actionable steps among students, faculty, and professionals towards combating plastic pollution.
The event commenced with the auspicious lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by Dr. Gaurav from Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth.
Er. Inderdeep Singh Oberoi, Chairman, IEI Faridabad Local Centre, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event. He shared his insights and emphasized the engineering community’s responsibility in fostering sustainable innovation and effectively addressing plastic waste challenges.
Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Y. Chaudhary, Pro Vice Chancellor of Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth, spoke on the importance of individual participation in sustainability. He stressed that collective environmental responsibility begins with individual action and self-discipline.
Dr. M.K. Soni, Patron, Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth, highlighted the importance of collaboration and underlined the global concern around microplastics and their impact on human health. He also suggested practical steps that institutions and individuals can adopt to reduce plastic use.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Somvir Bajar, Assistant Professor, J.C. Bose University. He presented a detailed and analytical overview of the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste. His address included scientifically grounded solutions, policy recommendations, and grassroots engagement strategies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Registrar of Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth also shared her valuable reflections, emphasizing the need for consistent institutional efforts in environmental conservation.
Prof. Pradeep Kumar Dimri, Honorary Secretary, The Institution of Engineers (India), Faridabad Local Centre, delivered the concluding remarks. He highlighted the Indian philosophy of respecting and living in harmony with nature, quoting the Srimad Bhagavad Gita:
(All beings are sustained by food, food is produced by rain, rain is produced by performance of sacrifice, and sacrifice arises from prescribed duties.)
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dharmender of Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth. The event was moderated by FLCC member Prof. Senthil Vadivel T from MRIIRS.
Over 150 attendees participated, including students, faculty members, engineers, and sustainability advocates. Many FLCC members including Er. Sushil Bajaj, Er. A.K Gupta, Dr. Pradeep Mallah, Er. J. R. Chaudhary and Er. Pankaj attended the celebration.
As part of the celebrations, a Tree Plantation Drive was also organized at Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth. The drive symbolized the institution’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. Participants took a pledge to nurture the saplings and inspire others to contribute to a greener and cleaner future.
