The Institution of Engineers (India) established in year 1920, was incorporated by Royal charter on September 09, 1935 and is the only professional body in India to be accorded this honor.

On September 09, 1935 the auspicious day The Royal charter of incorporation was granted to IEI by his Majesty, The King and Emperor George V at the court at Buckingham Palace, London.

Royal Charter provides the responsibility to promote the general advancement of engineering amongst its members and persons attached to the Institution. After independence, The Institution is a body corporate protected under the article 372 of constitution of India.

The Institution of engineers organizes a number of seminars and workshops are held on various relent topics related to Engineering by different state centers and local centers of IEI spread all over the country.
